A new computer-based version of the GED test was introduced on Jan. 2, 2014. If you passed some of the GED tests prior to 2014 but did not complete the whole test, you will have to re-take the parts you’ve already passed. This service is provided to students who are taking a class at another school or university and need a proctored environment for testing. In order to become a good paraprofessional, be supportive, listen to the teacher, and remember that you’re there to help students who need it most.
Is it hard to pass the ParaPro test?
While the ParaPro test is not overly difficult, it includes some challenging questions. Be sure to do plenty of ParaPro test prep! You can start with our free paraprofessional practice test. Work through the questions carefully and then be sure to review the explanations in order to learn from your mistakes.

A prefix and a suffix both modify a root word but the difference between the two is that a prefix comes at the beginning and a suffix comes at the end.

The Workplace Documents assessment measures skills that individuals use when they read real workplace documents and use that information to make job-related decisions and solve problems. Paraprofessionals work in schools with children from kindergarten through high school. They hold such positions as teacher’s aides, library aides, computer aides, special needs aides, one-on-one aides, and other roles.
Your ParaPro Assessment score is calculated using a scaled scoring system. This system takes your raw score (each correct question equals one raw point) and converts it to a scaled score ranging from 420 to 480. Each state sets the minimum passing score, so the score you need will be different depending on your state.
In order to serve as a teacher, school support personnel, or an administrator in the state of Illinois at a public or recognized non-public school, an individual must obtain a license. The General Educational Development (GED) test allows adults to demonstrate that they have the knowledge and skills equivalent to a high school diploma. Having a GED provides many opportunities, especially in the job market, for those who did not graduate from high school. The exam is scheduled six times per year at KCC’s Riverfront Campus. During the exam, students complete 215 multiple-choice questions within an allotted amount of in time for each section. Working as a paraprofessional is a great job for the right person.
In order to become a para certified, you need to complete a two-year college degree and pass the Paraprofessional Test. The second part of this category is how to help students write. You will be asked about the writing process or writing applications. The score report will show the total number of questions the candidate answered correctly (also known as the “raw score”) grouped by content category. This is so the candidate is able to identify which content areas may potentially need to be improved upon.
The ParaPro Assessment is administered at participating school districts and are given by appointment. Candidates are encouraged to select a testing center and contact them directly in order to schedule a testing appointment. Be sure to register as soon as you have selected a testing center, since they have a limited capacity and operate on a first-come-first-served basis. Paraprofessionals play an essential role within school districts. Under the supervision of a licensed teacher, a paraprofessional supports teachers and students many ways. The ParaPro Assessment measures the ability of paraeducators to use reading, writing, and math skills when assisting in the classroom.

The SUB License requires a bachelor’s degree and costs $50.00. You may be eligible for an extended time if English is not your primary language. Other than your identification, no other personal items are permitted inside the testing room.
Now we are going to look at the other half of the reading portion that covers skills to help students read. Illinois law requires Illinois school boards to conduct a criminal background investigation on applicants for employment. This law also prohibits the employment of a person who has been convicted of committing or attempting to commit any one or more of a number of offenses.
To register for the exam at a Prometric testing center, you should register online at the Prometric website. When you register, you will need to pay the $85 testing fee. If you need to reschedule your exam after registration, there is a $42.50 rescheduling/cancelation fee. The 30 questions in this area cover your writing skills and knowledge, as well as your ability to apply writing skills and knowledge to instruction in the classroom.
This position is also a great stepping stone towards becoming a full-time classroom teacher, if that is of interest to the candidate. Every job has its challenges and being a paraprofessional can be challenging at times. The ETS Praxis® ParaPro exam defines writing applications as writing for different purposes and audiences. You will need to make sure you are able to help students understand the different types of writing and what each of them are used for. Geometry and measurement is the next category of the mathematics section.
An online scratchpad tool is provided in the test program for note-taking. In addition to the scratchpad tool, you are allowed a hand-held whiteboard (white), one whiteboard eraser, cloth, or tissue, and up to three dry-erase markers. Registering for the ParaPro Assessment requires an ETS account and a Prometric account. Once you have created your ETS account, you can select the option to register for the ParaPro Assessment (1755). Online registration is available 24/7, and appointments are scheduled year-round.
Anyone who wishes to be a paraprofessional educator in a state or school district which requires the ParaPro Assessment should take the ParaPro. The ParaPro assessment (ParaPro) is a Praxis exam designed to evaluate the skills of both prospective and currently practicing paraprofessionals in the education field. While working on the approval, the educator must be fulfilling the requirements for the full license – either 60 hours of college credit, OR pass the ETS Paraprofessional or WorkKeys test. Candidates interested in employment as a paraprofessional must apply and meet the requirements outlined by the Illinois State Board of Education. Southwestern Illinois College offers preparation classes for the ACT WorkKeys assessment and proctors the online version of the ACT WorkKeys assessment each spring, summer and fall.

How do I become a good paraprofessional?
The registration fee is $85, and there is a rescheduling/cancelation fee of $42.50. The 30 questions in this area cover your mathematical skills and knowledge, as well as your ability to apply mathematical concepts to real-life and abstract situations. Note that you will not be able to use a calculator for these questions. Teacher assistants are more of a supplementary position, as opposed to teachers, who hold a primary position. Therefore, teacher assistants’ employment opportunities may depend on school districts’ budgets.
The type of question used for the paraprofessional test is multiple-choice. The ParaPro test is used for measuring a person’s ability to fulfill the position of paraprofessional. Two important concepts you will need to be able to define are the main idea and the primary purpose.
The subjects are Science, Social Studies, Mathematical Reasoning, and Reasoning Through Language Arts. The ACT WorkKeys assessments include both cognitive and non-cognitive skills tests that enable you to compare your strengths and abilities to the skills required in the workplace. Effective May 2014, the Testing Services Department at KCC became an authorized Meazure Learning testing center. Tests are administered in the Specialized Testing Center, Room D217, located on the second floor of the Workforce Development Center building on KCC’s Riverfront campus. Effective January 2014, the Testing Services Department at KCC became an authorized Pearson Vue testing center. If you take the ParaPro test at a testing center, the cost of the test is $55.
The No Child Left Behind Act mandated that Paraprofessionals be highly qualified. MCC offers the WorkKeys Paraprofessional Certificate Assessments, as approved by the State of Illinois, as one way to fulfill this requirement. If a student does not place into 100-level math, they may seek to retake the math placement exam or complete math courses through the 080 level to meet math requirements. Students that place into 100-level mathematics or higher can take a 3 credit-hour AAS General Education elective.

The Educational Testing Service’s (ETS) ParaPro Assessment (1755) is an aptitude test required in 41 states and the US Virgin Islands. The exam is designed to measure your skills and knowledge in reading, mathematics, and writing, and school districts use it to assess your foundational knowledge and skills as a paraprofessional. The writing portion of the exam covers two areas of writing, writing skills and knowledge and application of writing skills and knowledge to classroom instruction. The writing skills and knowledge questions will be skills needed to be able to write. The application of writing skills and knowledge to classroom instruction questions will be ways to help students write.
