Job Description:
Leapstart After School is seeking experienced and dedicated substitute teachers to join our team in Cupertino, CA on a need-based contract position. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about working with children, have a strong understanding of children's developmental stages, and are able to create a safe and nurturing environment for our TK-5th grade students during after-school hours.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide coverage for regular classroom teachers in their absence
- Oversee homework and provide guidance and support to students as necessary
- Build positive relationships with parents, students, and staff
- Maintain a safe and conducive learning environment for children
- Demonstrate cooperation, flexibility, and teamwork
- Ensure that the teacher to student ratio is within the required limit of 1:14
- Manage behavior according to school standards and expectations
- Be prepared and familiar with emergency and disaster procedures
- Instruct children in the practice of cleanliness and self-care
- Document incidents of injury, health, or behavior issues
- Keep materials inventoried, organized, and put away when finished
- Perform assigned housekeeping duties as needed
- Assist in the preparation of snacks and lunch
Position Requirements:
- Experience working with elementary school-aged children
- Knowledge of children's developmental stages and activities that are appropriate for each grade level
- Flexibility, patience, and calm demeanor when working with children
- Excellent communication skills and organizational skills
- Willingness to go through a detailed background and fingerprinting check
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Proof of medical/TB exam completed within 7 days of hire, Vaccinations required (MMR, COVID-19)
- Must have fingerprints cleared and child abuse index prior to hire
- Preferably certified in CPR and First Aid or willing to obtain one
- 12+ ECE units is nice to have
- Fluency in Spanish, Mandarin, or Hindi is a plus and preference will be given to candidates who are well-versed in the respective culture.
This is a substitute position and schedule will vary depending on the need of the school.
