The TX PACT LOTE Spanish Childhood–Grade 12 exam is developed and administered by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) in collaboration with Pearson Education. The TEA is responsible for overseeing the content and quality of the exam to ensure it meets state standards and accurately assesses the competencies required for effective Spanish language teaching. In my experience, most candidates who receive a score of zero on the lesson plan failed to teach the exact objective provided in the prompt.
It is the acceptance of and implementation of these five program goals or five C’s into daily lesson plans that Texas educators believe is a key to advanced proficiency for language learners. I thank that it’s important that we started to focus on the five C’s, because I really think that is where language teaching needs to go. Traditional ways of exploring culturing includes studying famous people or historical events. But culture in language instruction today in Texas is generally understood to include examining how people perceive themselves and others. What local people in second language countries do, and what products or services these people use or provide. The Curriculum Standards and Student Support Division provides direction and leadership for the state’s LOTE programs for Kindergarten through grade 12.
The following question types will list on the practice tests of this resource if they show on the real exam. The text for LOTE are the standards that describe what all students should know and be able to do at different stages within the LOTE discipline. These standards are organized around five program goals. First and foremost is Communication, in LOTE classrooms, students are striving to speak a second language and communication is the vehicle language learners use to become proficient. Honestly, this exam is Captain Random of Spanish tests. I have two degrees in Spanish and am fluent, so that definitely helped. However, some of the questions just seemed off the wall. One thing I would suggest is to remain relaxed going into the exam. I passed but my scores could have been a lot better had I not been so nervous and stumbled over myself during the recorded response section (but then again, I don’t do well being recorded anyway).

the cultures of Spain and other Spanish-speaking countries and are exposed to representative literature and videos.

The exam questions in this resource were developed by subject area experts following the guidelines of the actual TExES™ test framework as defined by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC). There are 120 selected-response questions and eight constructed-response questions on the exam. To pass the exam, your final question must be on or above the 240 mark. If your final question is below this mark, you will not pass the exam, even if you have answered some questions above the 240 mark at some point during the exam. This is because the computer has rated the difficulty of your final question based on how you answered the previous questions. You take a placement test in your preferred LOTE if you plan to continue studying the language at Illinois and you do not already have college-level credit for the language in your Illinois academic record.
