The Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) exam is used to identify individuals with the basic knowledge and skills needed to stabilize and safely transport patients. EMTs function as an emergency medical services (EMS) team member under medical oversight. The program consists of a series of courses that cover topics such as basic life support, patient assessment, medical terminology, and airway management. Upon successful completion of the program, individuals are able to apply for certification as a DOH EMT Basic and are eligible to work in the state of New York.
Our NREMT practice questions are categorized to help you focus your studies. Each question will have four possible answers to choose from. The questions will help you as you begin your NREMT test prep.

A quiz given at the start of almost every class accounts for 20% of the students running total or cumulative average. Students must pass each quiz with a 75% or better. Failing an individual quiz will require the student to retake the quiz until it is passed or three attempts have been made. The student may still remain in the program, but the first grade will always remain in the records. The EMT Exam Study Guide gives you an understanding of what to expect with the real exam questions.
Additionally, many EMT practice tests have a section explaining the answer choices. It can be tempting to read the explanation and think that you now have a good understanding of the concept. However, an explanation likely only covers part of the question’s broader context. Even if the explanation makes sense, go back and investigate every concept related to the question until you’re positive you have a thorough understanding. This will show you exactly what your weak areas are and where you need to devote more study time. Ask yourself why each of these questions gave you trouble.
In addition, you will be given explanations for all the questions to help you progress through your EMT prep. The EMT exam contains between 70 and 120 multiple-choice questions, and you will be given 2 hours to complete it. Ten of the questions are unscored “pretest” questions.
Bill created them to be slightly more challenging than the NREMT. If our program gave you a false sense of being fully prepared, would that be fair to you? We don’t think we’d be getting you where you need to be. It will take time, but since you will be trusted with people’s lives once you pass, it will be time and effort well spent. It’s not about getting 100% of the questions correct; it’s about proving you know the material.
The content areas will be mixed together and the actual balance of questions you see will depend on exactly how many questions you end up getting on the test. You can get your money back within 14 days without reason. You fill in a form and our customer service team will take care of the rest. Treat the patient as if they had a do not resuscitate order. Protected heath information can be shared EMS providers for training.
Recently, my students also completed an “escape room” task for which they had to answer questions and solve problems related to our quadratics unit. Again, each task was rich and covered many topics, so students reviewed more math than they realized. Art Hsieh, MA, NREMT-P is a highly experienced paramedic, clinician, and educator, helping hundreds of students prepare for and pass the national examination process.

As a prehospital care provider, you will be tasked to perform diligently and skillfully in difficult situations but this is also an opportunity to make a difference. Grayson College offers three levels of EMS education and will directly prepare you for your future career. My first class review will typically be an open book test. I find that having to search for the answer helps my students internalize the need to retain the answer. Over the course of the test, I slowly decrease the time students have to answer or limit the number of resources they can use. I just took and passed my written today and I can say the material here really prepares your mind for how to think and break down questions.
If you like thick expensive books that will eat up all your free time with reading assignments, then you probably won’t like testing-out. Well, since it’s the college and universities’ themselves that create the testing-out policies, we don’t see how this should be a concern. When you’re successful with our program, you will receive a degree from an accredited college, and that’s important. It doesn’t matter if you are attending courses online or at a college campus; in both cases, Credit-by-Examination policies allow you to test-out of college courses.
