Understanding the structure of the exam is the first step to helping you pass the Core Subjects exam. Once you know what information the Core covers, you can take a practice test to identify your weak areas. Then, focus on those weak areas in your studies first. The full test itself takes 5 hours, but expect to be at the testing site longer. It takes time to get checked in and get started. Plan to arrive at least 30 minutes before your appointment time.
Similarly to the Mathematics section, the Social Studies section of the TExES 391 Core Subjects EC-6 exam is also made up of 40 questions. Participants have 50 minutes to complete the Social Studies section. This portion of the TExES 391 will cover the United States history, world history, and geography.
What is the passing score for EC-6 core subjects?
*Results for the Core Subjects EC–6 (391) exam are reported as Passed or Not Passed, as there is no total passing score for the overall exam. Testers must earn a passing score of 240 on each individual Subject Exam to pass the overall exam.
Candidates retaking the entire Core Subjects battery must literally view (but not answer) all of the test questions in each subtest. If you do not get a passing score on the practice test, study the detailed explanations for the questions you answered incorrectly. Note which types of questions you answered wrong, and reexamine the corresponding review content. After further review, you may want to retake the practice test. Additional coursework will be determined by the appropriate Program Coordinator in consultation with faculty.
Once you have created your account, you can register for the exam and schedule an exam date. When you get to the testing site, expect to have your identification checked, your photo taken, your palm scanned, your eyeglasses checked, and to place your belongings in a secure storage space. You will be given an erasable notepad and pen.
