After each attempt, they provide you with a detailed score report that breaks down the exam into manageable sections. This allows you to see which areas you struggled with during the exam and target those for improvement moving forward. Those using the primary pathway can choose to retake their accredited CT educational program (or select and complete a different accredited CT program). Alternatively, they can choose to enroll in an advanced placement program, if granted permission from the program director. You’ll find out how we score exams, the difference between your preliminary score at the test center and your final score report, and when you can expect your final score.
Candidates for selection may not retake unsuccessful coursework or take missing prerequisite classes over the summer toward program entry fall term. The primary limitation of our study was the small sample size, which can lead to
recall bias for readers, despite randomization of the order in which the images were
shown, and low statistical power for some analyses. This can be attributed to the
challenges of recruiting participants for a second whole-body CT scan and the fact
that this was a single-center study.
Your identified areas of weakness are where to focus your continuing education efforts or study endeavors so you can get an ARRT passing score should you need to retake the exam. In addition to sharper kernel reconstructions, the inherent spectral capabilities of
PCCT could be used to create color overlays based on tissue properties (eg, calcium
as blue) to potentially aid lesion detection. While this article was under review,
another study reported improved detection of multiple myeloma lesions with PCCT
combined with deep learning reduction of noise relative to EID (19).
Standard CT technology employs energy-integrating detectors (EID) that measure the
total energy detected across multiple photons simultaneously (10). In contrast, photon-counting CT (PCCT) is a new technology
that uses detectors that discriminate the energy of individual photons in the x-ray
beam. PCCT has the capability to convert detected individual photons into electric
signals (11). The net result of PCCT is improved image quality
and reproducibility (12,13). The Radiography question bank provided by BoardVitals is an online resource that provides over 1,100 ARRT-style questions to help you prepare for the ARRT Radiography Exam.
The standard-setting process helps to ensure that our exam appropriately measures who should and should not become certified and registered in CT. We anticipate that the new cut score and our new performance expectations may lead to a slight decrease in the percentage of candidates who pass the CT exam. “Scaled” in the sense that when evaluating the exam, the version of the exam and the audience to which it is administered is thought to be taken into consideration. The number of questions you must get correct may vary slightly depending on the version of the exam you may have received, hypothetically. Using the scaled methodology helps to equalize the various versions of the exam so that scores get distributed fairly.
I know it seems like overkill, but you would be surprised how hard it can be to find some testing centers. As a student, one of my worst fears was being late, or even missing an exam because I woke up to a flat tire or an empty tank of gas. When I took my first exam at a Pearson Vue Center, I had more trouble finding the office suite than I ever thought was possible. I remember walking into the building just minutes before my exam was set to begin and was so stressed that it was hard to concentrate for the first half hour.
This method addresses differences in difficulty across versions of each exam. After you take an exam, you’ll receive a preliminary scaled score at the test center. If a user or application submits more than 10 requests per second, further requests from the IP address(es) may be limited for a brief period. Once the rate of requests has dropped below the threshold for 10 minutes, the user may resume accessing content on SEC.gov.

We do this so you can see your relative performance across content sections. Shadowing is perhaps the best way for an applicant to personally experience and reflect upon the medical imaging career however, it is not required for admission into the program. If unavailable, applicants are strongly encouraged to gain familiarity with the degree profession in other ways. The current cut score was set in 1995 but much has changed since then with types of CT exams, skills and knowledge of the technologist, as well safety standards for CT procedures. With an ARRT passing score, you can earn ARRT certification and registration, getting you qualified for the jobs you want and showing your professional competency in patient care. In psychometrics, we consider periodic evaluation of cut scores a best practice.
Our immersive, high-quality video lessons make complex concepts easier to comprehend compared to traditional text-based training. Our interactive videos ensure you stay engaged and retain critical information, setting you up for success in the field. The pointers here are not solely for the ARRT Radiography exam and can be generalized to all Rad Tech certification exams. You might find in the future one of the other subjects has more to offer, and that will require completion of yet another exam. Having things go as smoothly as possible is a great way to start such an important day. Remember, to become certified and registered, you are expected to thoroughly understand and be able to apply core principles – don’t expect an exam full of Radiography trivia.
This change is a result of new performance expectations for entry-level CT technologist. Based on this report, going back to the content specifications provided by the ARRT can help identify what you need to spend time improving your knowledge before attempting the exam again. These content specifications directly correlate to questions on the exam, so mastering them means setting yourself up for success when retaking it. The advisory committee ultimately submitted its recommendations for the cut score to ARRT’s Board of Trustees. The Board reviewed all information from the standard setting study and the committee recommendation before adopting a revised cut score. Next we calculate the scaled scores for the individual sections of your exams.
If you don’t pass on the third try, you must requalify to sit for the exam again. We aim to become the reddit home of radiologists, radiographers, technologists, sonographers and lay-users interested in medical imaging. At ARRT, we continually update exams—adding new questions and removing outdated ones to address advances in the profession. If we find that you provided inaccurate or incomplete information or didn’t pay all appropriate fees, we may cancel your exam score or hold the results for as long as six months after the exam. If we find you ineligible for certification and registration, or if an issue remains unresolved after six months, we’ll cancel your score.
Together, you will determine the best study plan to ensure you can pass the exam on your next attempt. Test-takers using the postprimary pathway must begin and complete clinical experience again as well as complete the structured education requirements before requalifying for the exam. It is important to note that you must apply for requalification within two years from the completion of those clinical hours. A passing score shows that a candidate has mastered adequate knowledge to be considered qualified to perform the role safely and effectively. ARRT uses several quality-control procedures to ensure that all exams are scored with complete accuracy. It’s extremely unlikely that our scoring calculations will be incorrect.

different reconstruction kernels may lead to continued improvement in PCCT
diagnostic quality. That process required multiple rounds of ratings and incorporated in-depth discussions with other committee members. The goal was to determine what level of exam performance would demonstrate sufficient knowledge and skills for a candidate to be certified and registered as an entry-level radiographer. To determine an appropriate cut score, our CT Standard Setting Advisory Committee members reviewed each question from a representative version of the exam. Individually, they rated the likelihood that candidates at or just above the passing threshold would answer each question correctly. The goal was to determine what level of exam performance would demonstrate sufficient knowledge and skills for a candidate to be certified and registered as an entry-level CT technologist.
Your request has been identified as part of a network of automated tools outside of the acceptable policy and will be managed until action is taken to declare your traffic. Please refer to the Medical Imaging Technology section of the Oregon Tech Catalog; Specific departmental requirements are included there. Nestled on the eastern slope of the Cascade Mountains, the 190-acre campus provides a rigorous and robust campus life personalized by a low student-to-faculty ratio. Read the acceptance letter and all additional information very carefully as instructions on ‘next steps’ will be included.
Just as it applies to so many other aspects of life, tackling a problem with an organized plan, rather than a haphazard casual approach, is almost always in your best interest. Don’t underestimate its difficulty, prepare thoroughly, and you will be fine. We have a tendency to let our pride get in the way of reason, and drawing a blank on something we know is hard to let go.
Averaging your section scores doesn’t equal your total score because each section has a different number of questions. A section with 75 questions influences your score more than a section with only 35 questions. Sometimes, statistics show that one exam is slightly easier or harder than other versions. To make our exams fair and equitable to all, we use a system called scaled scoring.
BoardVitals Question Banks offer 24-hour access from your phone, tablet, or computer. These banks are written and reviewed by expert doctors and healthcare professionals. Whether you’re studying for your Board Exam, or fulfilling CME and MOC requirements, BoardVitals offers a tool to get what you need, on your own time. AHEC offers a CT Prep and Exam Review that is 16 hours of structured education course that provides technologist a comprehensive overview of the concepts and principles of Computed Tomography. The CT Prep and Exam Review topics include the content areas as outlined in the ARRT content specifications for the Post Primary CT exam.
Studies have shown that testing yourself with practice questions or taking practice tests have proven to be one of the most effective study techniques. Some people find that answering practice questions breaks up the monotony of reading and reviewing text, while others use them as their only means of preparation. Question banks also help users get used to the question formats and can help users figure out a pace to complete the exam. The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) requires anyone pursuing a career as a Radiologic Technologist (RT, Rad Tech) to complete an educational, ethical, and examination component. The latter of these requirements is a certification exam which ARRT uses to assess fundamental knowledge and skills needed for an entry-level job in any of the various disciplines. Course creator Mike Enriquez will personally review your score report and you’ll receive a complimentary consultation with him to form a plan.
The application and RSVP for the interview are usually available online in March and must be submitted electronically. Individuals are encouraged to post/interact with the college’s Official Facebook page. Cell phones and pagers are prohibited in the classroom and laboratory sessions. For more information and instructions on how to withdraw from a class see BCTC Withdrawal Procedures page.
Therefore, you are ineligible to retake your exam once that three years elapse or you have failed three times (whichever comes first). We work with institutional partners to offer a wide array of practice tests that will help you prepare for your big exam. No matter how niche your field of interest might be, we’re here to help you prepare for test day. At the testing center, after completing your exam, a scaled ARRT preliminary score will briefly appear on your screen.
You should receive your Examination Results Packet in the mail in about a month. The packet contains your official ARRT exam results, including your final scaled score. Individual reader scoring differences between energy-integrating detector

Having recently completed your Rad Tech degree, it might be tempting to pat yourself on the back and slip back into your busy life. So, what happens if you fail the exam three times or let that three-year period end without passing? Depending on which pathway you are using to achieve your CT credential (primary or postprimary), the requirements to do so can vary. Radiologic technologists work each day in patient care, and their services are vital to many.
To make things simple, the ARRT includes a reapplication for certification and registration with the score packet you receive upon failing the exam. No matter the pathway, requalification can set you back years in your career. That is why is it vital to use what you’ve learned from failed first or second attempts to ensure passing the third time. The ARRT allows for test-takers to attempt their CT Registry Exam up to three times. However, all attempts must be completed within the three-year period starting from the beginning of your initial exam window.
