How is the Lote graded?
How Do Students Attain Credit? LOTE exams are based on a proficiency level grading system: Novice Mid, Low Range Novice High, High Range Novice High, and Intermediate Low. Students who are tested can be awarded up to 2 credits.
All students in New York State must earn 44 credits and pass five Regents exams with a score of at least 65 to graduate. Some specialized and alternative schools have additional requirements. Students who attend a New York Performance Standards Consortium School are exempt from taking all but the English Regents exam. “Less is more.” – According to current research, students can perform at a higher level when they are not overwhelmed with excessive content.

You are allowed to take a restroom break during the exam, but the timer will not be paused while you are away. The fee for adding any additional LOTE language proficiency to the CoreCHI-P credential is $30 (non-refundable, specified for 2023, subject to change). One thing I would suggest is to remain relaxed going into the exam. I passed but my scores could have been a lot better had I not been so nervous and stumbled over myself during the recorded response section (but then again, I don’t do well being recorded anyway). If starting with the second renewal cycle, the additional LOTE fee is not paid, the certificate is issued only for the primary/first LOTE. The TExES LOTE Spanish exam contains 120 selected-response questions and 8 constructed-response questions, and you will be given a time limit of 4 hours and 45 minutes. All CoreCHI certificants qualify to take the ETOE exam and earn the CoreCHI-P certification. At this time, transitioning to the CoreCHI-P certification is voluntary. Starting in 2025, this transition will become mandatory, and the CoreCHI certificants will have to earn the CoreCHI-P certification within 1-2 years.

The World Languages: LOTE single subject credential enables you to teach elementary, middle school, and high school world language classes in California public schools. There are many questions and you have few seconds to answer them. To earn a diploma, students must earn specific course credits and pass specific Regents exams. Applicants are instructed before each section as to the mode of interpreting required, that is, whether they are to do consecutive or simultaneous interpreting. Applicants are required to orally interpret all material spoken in English (source language) into the Language Other Than English (LOTE) and everything spoken in the LOTE into English.
Candidates eligible to take the TX PACT LOTE Spanish Childhood–Grade 12 exam include those seeking admission to an educator preparation program (EPP) in the state of Texas, as well as out-of-state and international candidates seeking Texas certification. To be eligible, candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution and meet other specific eligibility requirements laid out by the TEA. The TX PACT LOTE Spanish Childhood–Grade 12 exam is developed and administered by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) in collaboration with Pearson Education.
