The exam questions in this resource were developed by subject area experts following the guidelines of the actual TExES™ test framework as defined by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC). This is a place for kindergarten, elementary, and secondary school teachers at both public and private Texas schools. The state preparation manual for the STR exam is now available and can be accessed by clicking here. Workshops are offered each semester and sometimes fill up quickly. In addition to coursework, TExES preparation manuals are available on the Texas Educator Certification Examination Program (NES) website. Study with others can be helpful as well as motivating.
To register for the exam, you must create an online NES account via their website. Once your account has been created, you can use it to register for the exam and schedule an exam date. This tab is pretty much identical to the exam I took. The bullet point that I have circled, were the only ones I saw on the actual exam. It was a lot of stress and then caused less time for me to prep for my class of students. I could have been spending time teaching and closing the gaps and instead I was miserable, crying, trying to get through the class, and hating my job. Instead, during a pandemic time you choose to make our job so hard that everyone wants to quit or retire. There needs to be a balance and teachers need to be heard.

Enroll in affordable, self-paced courses designed specifically to support you as you prepare for your teacher certification assessment. I passed the STR , and had to take the reading academy all during my first year of teaching….not to mention the hundreds of dollars in gas to drive back and forth, and the countless hours doing the “homework”. I’m glad the future people don’t have to do it, but it’s sad for us that had to be the Guinea pigs. 40 years teaching and I have a master’s degree, but it counted for nothing.
Please allow 1–3 days for the exam authorization to show as available for reschedule in your testing account. Once available, you may reschedule your exam as best fits your needs. No fees will be incurred for rescheduling your appointment. As COVID-19 continues to spread globally, our first priority is health and safety. As a result, there may be instances where test appointments need to be cancelled. Some testing centers are located at institutions of higher education so campus closures may also impact test center availability.

Sight words are words that students should be able to recognize automatically, or upon first sight, without having to use decoding strategies. Sight words are seen frequently in text and sometimes don’t follow conventional letter-sound patterns.
It is important that educators are able to recognize what stage of spelling development a child is in so that they can provide appropriate instruction to help move the child from one stage to the next. Let’s take a look at each stage of spelling development. Welcome to our TExES STR practice test and prep page.
When you register, you will need to pay the $136 examination fee. This exam did cost $140 to take, which is $20 more than the usual exam fee. I also had to take it at a Pearson testing location, which I wasn’t very happy about. Everything that Pearson has posted for free on the actual testing website, is true and straight forward.

You will need to take the STR exam, but when you take it depends on when your Intern Certificate is issued. If your Intern Certificate is issued by or before December 30, 2020, you may take the STR during your Intern Year. If your Intern Certificate is not issued by or before December 30, 2020, you are required to pass the STR exam prior to being recommended for your Intern Certificate. The Analysis and Response domain consists of one constructed-response question, which accounts for about 20% of the entire exam. Study time will vary for each individual test taker, but keep in mind that there are many different concepts covered in the STR exam. You will likely need to start studying several weeks before your exam.
If that happens, all you need to do is retake the subject exam that you failed. I feel that they should also exempt teachers with 20 or more years of experience. Also, will all districts give teachers the option to “test out” or is it up to each individual district? It should be consistent across all school districts, and teachers should be given that option especially those of us who have been teaching 20 or more years. For more information, the Texas Educator Certification Exam website has a preparation manual, and you can use study guides and flashcard systems that will greatly help your efforts to pass the test. One of the final exams all Texas teachers must take on their list of Texas teacher certification tests is the PPR, or Pedagogy and Professional Responsibility. All aspiring teachers must take this before earning an educator certification whether an individual chooses an in-person program or online teaching certification. Determining which certification tests you must take for the area you wish to teach can take some planning and attention to detail. While some exams like a content exam and PPR are required for every teaching intern, others are optional (such as additional content exams) or dependent on what area or grade level you wish to teach. While you MUST take and pass one individual subject exam to meet the texas teacher certification requirements, you can take more than one subject exam.
